AI Briefing: Agent workflows, VS Code changes and Barclays’ Claude rollout
Reusable coding workflows, September’s editor updates and a bank’s deployment plans, with the distinction between previews and reported adoption.
Agents
Copilot introduces code-defined dynamic workflows
Dynamic workflows are available in Copilot CLI, the Copilot app and the SDK. A program defines stages, passes structured outputs between them and decides when agents are involved. GitHub describes sequential or parallel steps, reusable checkpoints and client-dependent requests for human input. The workflow design is written in code rather than left entirely to an agent’s improvisation.
Why it matters
For a repeated task, identify which stages need judgment and which should follow a fixed process. Review checkpoints and failure handling before trusting an unattended workflow.

VS Code’s September releases add agent session controls
GitHub’s October summary covers VS Code versions 1.136 through 1.140. It describes recurring automations, pull-request preparation, related-session navigation and Dev Container sessions. Automations, agent merge and several session-management options remain previews. The post is a retrospective of September releases rather than evidence that every user received all features on October 1.
Why it matters
Check the version and preview settings when comparing coding tools. Session organization and reproducible environments can affect daily work as much as the selected model.

Barclays expands its collaboration with Anthropic
Anthropic says Barclays is extending Claude across software development and operations. The announcement describes an existing knowledge assistant and email-processing workflows, and sets a target for Claude Code adoption to reach half of the bank’s developers by the end of 2026. That developer-adoption figure is a future target; deployment counts and operational examples are company-reported.
Why it matters
Enterprise case studies can suggest practical workflows. They do not establish the same productivity gains for another team; examine governance, source access and human review in your own deployment.
